Roselle Man Dies After Being Stung By Bees
UPDATED 09/27/11 3:46 p.m.
ROSELLE, Ill. (CBS) -- An autopsy scheduled for Wednesday could determine whether bee stings contributed to the death of a Roselle man who died on Monday, apparently while trying to get rid of a beehive outside his home.
Bruce Madiar, 62, of the 500 block of Dee Lane in Roselle, was trying to clean a beehive from his home Monday evening. The bees apparently became angry, and formed a swarm to attack him, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Madiar was pronounced dead at 6:21 p.m. at Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village, according to medical examiner's office.
Itasca Fire Protection District officials said they believe Madiar had a heart attack, as paramedics noticed no sign of bee stings and saw no bees or wasps flying around when they arrived at the scene. But officials did confirm a can of bee killer spray was found at the scene.
Madiar was in cardiac arrest when paramedics arrived. His wife told authorities that he went outside to get rid of a beehive, but said Madiar was not allergic to bees or anything else.
Roselle Police are investigating. An autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday to determine the cause of death.
Rich Miller's Capitol Fax reported Tuesday that Madiar was the father of Eric Madiar, the chief legal counsel and parliamentarian for the Illinois Senate Democrats.
Madiar's family issued a statement Tuesday afternoon stating, "The Madiar family mourns the passing of Bruce Madiar, a devoted husband, father of three and grandfather of five. We are grateful for overwhelming support from family, friends and neighbors - a testament to Bruce's extraordinary strength, character and generosity."
