Man Killed, 2 Hurt In South Side Crash
CHICAGO (STMW) - A motorist was killed early Saturday crash when the sedan he was driving lost control and struck a viaduct on the South Side, police said.
The 21-year-old man was driving the 1997 Oldsmobile sedan northbound near 3857 S. Ashland Ave. when the vehicle struck a median about 5:20 a.m., then lost control and slammed into a viaduct support pillar, police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said.
The was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he was later pronounced dead, Mirabelli said. Two passengers -- a 31-year-old man in the front passenger seat and a 24-year-old man in a rear seat -- were also taken to Stroger in unspecified conditions, he said.
Snowfall has been blanketing Chicago area roadways since late Friday, but it is unclear if weather conditions caused the crash, Mirabelli said.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the police Major Accidents Investigations Unit.
