Man Jailed In Child Sex Abuse Case In Naperville
WHEATON, Ill. (STMW) - A 63-year-old upstate man remained in DuPage County Jail in Wheaton Friday night on a $250,000 bond after being charged with child molestation in west suburban Naperville.
James W. French, of Dakota, was held at the jail in lieu of $25,000 bail, the 10 percent of his bond mandated under state law. He faces trial on a felony charge of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
Written Naperville police reports indicated investigators traveled to Dakota and arrested French shortly before 7 a.m. Thursday at his home. Dakota is about 110 miles west and north of Naperville, in Stephenson County near Rockford.
Naperville police Cmdr. Dave Hoffman on Friday night would not identify the victim of the alleged molestation. He said the crime "just recently occurred," and was brought to the attention of police by officials of the DuPage County Children's Center, which investigates allegations of sexual abuse involving children and teenagers.
"Naperville police anticipate releasing a press release with further details Monday," Hoffman said.
Records on file in DuPage County Circuit Court indicated French has no criminal record here. He is scheduled to appear Dec. 16 before Judge Daniel P. Guerin.
