Man In Vehicle Fatally Shot On West Side
CHICAGO (STMW) - A man found inside a vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds Friday night in the Garfield Park neighborhood died early Saturday.
Police responding to a call of shots fired found the man -- identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's office as 28-year-old Jonathan Hayes -- shot inside a vehicle at 7:38 p.m. Friday in the 3300 block of West Van Buren Street, police News Affairs Officer Anne Dwyer said.
The vehicle caught the attention of the officers because it had either crashed or parked awkwardly against a large pile of snow, police said.
Hayes was initially taken in serious condition to Mount Sinai Hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest, but it was later discovered that he was shot multiple times and his condition was downgraded to critical, police said.
Hayes, of the 1800 block of S. Troy St., was pronounced dead at 6:40 a.m. at the hospital, according to the medical examiner's office. He died during surgery, sources said.
Nobody else was inside the vehicle and nobody else was injured, police said.
Harrison Area detectives are investigating, but nobody is in custody Saturday evening.
