Man Held Without Bond In Cicero Slaying
CICERO, Ill. (STMW) -- A man charged with murder in connection with a fatal shooting in west suburban Cicero man on Sunday has been ordered held without bond.
Judge Kristyna Ryan ordered Carl Shampine held without bond for the shooting in the 5200 block of West 30th Street, Cook County State's Attorney Stephen Campbell said.
Shampine, 49, had been drinking with friends at the home about 3:30 p.m. Sunday when Santiago Salgado arrived and they got into a fight, according to a statement from Cicero town spokesman Ray Hanania.
During the fight, Shampine allegedly pulled out a handgun and shot Salgado once in the chest, killing him. Police later found Shampine walking into his home, also in Cicero. After "a brief struggle," he was arrested, still in possession of the gun, the statement said.
Salgado, 39, of the 8200 block of West 31st Street, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Shampine was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, authorities said. He will next appear in court for a preliminary hearing at the Maywood courthouse on Feb. 4, the state's attorney's office said.
