Man Held Without Bond For Armed Robberies Of Tow Truck Drivers
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A South Side man charged with at least eight armed robberies of tow truck drivers on the South Side is being held without bond.
Bobby Simms, 22, of the 7900 block of South Essex Avenue, was charged with eight counts of felony armed robbery with a firearm and one count each of felony armed robbery with a dangerous weapon, domestic battery, unlawful use of a weapon, contempt of court and misdemeanor harassment by telephone, according to a release from police News Affairs.
Simms was booked into the Cook County Jail Saturday and was ordered held without bond, according to the Cook County Sheriff's website. He is next scheduled to appear in court Monday.
Police investigating a pattern of armed robberies of tow truck drivers on the South Side encountered Simms Wednesday robbing a person at knifepoint in an alley in the 8000 block of South Kingston Avenue, the release said.
Simms was taken into custody after a brief foot chase, police said. He was positively identified and led police to the spot where he dropped the proceeds, the release said.
Further investigation revealed three outstanding warrants and an investigative alert for a domestic incident, the release said. Detectives were able to link Simms to the tow truck driver robberies and got several positive identifications from those crimes.
