Man Gets 8 Years In Prison For Punching Child In Genitals
ST. CHARLES, Ill. (STMW) -- A Michigan man was sentenced to eight years in prison Monday for punching his then girlfriend's young child in the genitals in 2011.
Associate Judge Clint Hull convicted Sedrick A. Ballard, 26, of Kalamazoo, Mich., of three counts of aggravated battery on April 12, then sentenced him Monday, according to a statement from the Kane County State's Attorney's office.
Ballard punched his ex-girlfriend's 5-year-old child three times in the genital area, according to prosecutors. The child was taken to Sherman Hospital in Elgin and later Lurie Children's Hospital with bruising, severe swelling and a laceration.
Ballard had been living with the woman in her Elgin home at the time of the Nov. 28, 2011, attack, prosecutors said.
By law, he must serve at least 85 percent of the sentence, and was given credit for 580 days served in the Kane County Jail, where he has been since his arrest, the statement said.
