Man Gets 3 Years For Child Porn, May Get 120 For Molestation
ST. CHARLES, Ill. (STMW) -- A northwest suburban man sentenced to three years in prison Thursday for possession of child pornography faces more than 100 years in prison if convicted of having sexual contact with a child.
William S. Muth, 45, of the 1400 block of Blackhawk Circle in South Elgin, was sentenced by Associate Judge T. Jordan Gallagher after being convicted by a jury on Oct. 27, 2010 of 22 counts of possession of child pornography, according to the Kane County State's Attorney's office.
On Feb. 6, 2008, Muth was found to be in possession of numerous images and movies showing minor children engaged in lewd poses or sexual acts, a release from the state's attorney's office said.
In addition to the child porn charges, Muth faces eight counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, each a Class X felony; and eight counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse in a separate 2008 case, the release said.
He is accused of having sexual contact with a child he knew who was younger than 13 at the time. If convicted, he could face up to 120 years in prison, the release said. Muth's next court appearance is set for 9 a.m. on April 28 before Judge Gallagher.
State's attorney's office spokesman Chris Nelson said the cases are unrelated and the child Muth is accused of molesting did not appear in the pornogrphic movies or images.
In addition to prison for the child porn conviction, Muth must register for life as a sex offender. He was given day-for-day sentencing. Muth had been free on $20,000 bond, but was immediately taken into custody.
