Man Gets 120 Years For Killing 72-year-old Woman And Her Dog
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A Chicago man has been sentenced to 120 years in prison for the 2008 murder of a 72-year-old woman and the killing of her dog in the basement a South Shore apartment building.
Danelo Solis, 28, was sentenced Monday after being convicted of the crime in November, according to a press release from the Cook County State's Attorney's office.
According to prosecutors, on June 16, 2008, the victim, Dorothy Brown-Taylor, was discovered by neighbors strangled and sexually assaulted in the basement of her apartment building in 7200 block of South Coles Avenue, the release said. Near her body, investigators found her dog, Frisky, who had also been killed.
Solis had been doing some construction work on the woman's building and was the last person to be seen with her, the release said. Solis admitted to police that he strangled and sexually assaulted the woman and that he also killed her dog.
Police also talked to witnesses who told them Solis had admitted to killing Brown-Taylor, according to the release, and DNA recovered from the victim was also later matched to Solis.
In November, Solis was convicted after a bench trial before Judge Thomas Gainer of first-degree murder, aggravated criminal sexual assault, and aggravated cruelty to animals.
