Man Gets 10 Years For Aurora Burglary
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A west suburban man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for a burglary two years ago in Aurora.
Associate Judge Linda Abrahamson sentenced 23-year-old Roosevelt T. Yankaway to 10 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections Wednesday, according to a statement from the Kane County state's attorney's office. He was convicted on Feb. 9 of one Class 1 felony count of residential burglary.
Yankaway broke into a home in the 1000 block of Kane Street in Aurora about 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 29, 2014, prosecutors said. A resident who was upstairs at the time heard a noise, went to investigate and caught Yankaway walking up the stairs.
Yankaway, who lives in the 100 block of East State Street in North Aurora, was eligible for enhanced sentencing because of his criminal history, the state's attorney's office said. He has multiple previous felony convictions for burglary, residential burglary and property damage.
He is eligible for day-for-day sentencing and was given credit for 436 days served in the Kane County Jail before his conviction, prosecutors said.
