CHICAGO (STMW) - A man who was found dead in the hallway of a West Side building Wednesday morning died of a gunshot wound to the head and his death was ruled a homicide, an autopsy has determined.
At 5:02 a.m. a body which had "visible trauma'' was found in a hallway of a structure in the 5200 block of West Lake Street, according to police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez. The man's body was found at 5237 W. Lake St., according to a spokesman for the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Police were looking at the man's death as a murder but they were not immediately able to determine if he had been "bludgeoned or beaten to death or shot,'' Perez said.
The man was identified as Alfred Reese, 54, of 1616 W. Madison St., according to the medical examiner's office. An autopsy later Wednesday found that Reese died of a gunshot wound to the head and his death was ruled a homicide.
