Man Found Fatally Shot On West Side Street

CHICAGO (STMW) - The Cook County Medical Examiner's office has identified a man found fatally shot on the front steps of a West Side house late Thursday.

Police found the 23-year-old man -- identified as Vernell Anderson -- shot three times near the sidewalk on the front steps of a residence in the 3800 block of W. Flournoy St., police said.

Anderson, of the 4400 block of N. Clifton Ave., was pronounced dead at 12:26 a.m. Friday at Mount Sinai Hospital, according to the medical examiner's office.

Police said Anderson suffered multiple gunshot wounds, including a gunshot to the head. A Friday autopsy determined he died of a gunshot wound to the chest, the medical examiner's office said.

Circumstances surrounding the shooting were not immediately known, although a neighbor said he heard shots fired around the time the man was found, police said.

Harrison Area detectives are investigating.
