Robbery Suspects In Custody After Crashing SUV Into Alsip Home

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Alsip Police say two teenage suspects in a robbery and a convenience store theft crashed their stolen SUV into a home this morning before trying to get away on foot.

It was 5:30 in the morning and Sheila McDermott and her two sons were all asleep in their home in Alsip.

"We were awakened by the sound of a crash and we came downstairs and saw a car had driven into our living room."

McDermott says the people who'd been in that vehicle had already taken off.

Police say they caught up with the teenagers - and arrested them.

Alsip Police had been chasing the teenagers because police say they stole the SUV in a robbery - then used it in a retail theft at a BP station.

Sheila McDermott says when the SUV crashed into her home, she didn't lose anything that's irreplaceable.

"Just a few things in the living room. The windows are kind of valuable," she says, laughing. "But they're gone. And the bricks."

When we spoke with her, she was waiting to hear from the fire department about the safety of her gas line - which was broken when the SUV came crashing in.
