CHICAGO (CBS) -- Was he targeted for a hit, or was it something else? Chicago police have been searching for a motive in the shooting death of a local construction company executive in Bridgeport.
CBS 2's Mike Parker reports it happened just after midnight Wednesday, in the 3000 block of South Haynes Court.
Bai Wei Wang, 55, came to America from china some 25 years ago. He was killed by a single gunshot as he was about to park his car in his garage early Wednesday morning.
"I heard a gunshot about 12 o'clock, or so, and I thought it was a firework, and I just went back to bed," neighbor Rina Trani said.
But another neighbor was more curious.
"I heard a gunshot out here, and I came running out here to see what was going on, and their garage door was open over there, and there was a car down the alley, probably about five or six houses down," said a neighbor who gave her name only as Cheryl.
Wang was apparently shot just before entering the garage. His car then continued rolling down the alley until it came to a stop. Police found him still behind the wheel.
A family friend said the father of three was apparently not the victim of a robbery. He still had his wallet, cash, and cell phone when he was discovered.
"I still can't believe this, but we have to take that … he's gone forever," family friend Betty Wang said. "Everybody loves him. Whoever knows him, all say he's a nice guy."
Chicago police said a dark colored van was seen racing away from the shooting scene. That's the only description they have right now.
