Man Fatally Shot Near Englewood Home

CHICAGO (STMW) - A man was fatally shot Tuesday afternoon about a block from his Englewood home.

The man -- identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's office as 32-year-old Hersehll Phillips -- was shot about 4:50 p.m. in the 6600 block of South Oakley Avneue, said police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala, citing preliminary information.

Police said the man was shot in the chest and leg and initially taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

The medical examiner's office said Phillips, of the 6600 block of South Bell Ave., was pronounced dead at the hospital at 7:07 p.m. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.

The shooting happened about a block from Phillips home.

Wentworth Area detectives are investigating.
