Man Falls On Tracks, Delays CTA Trains
CHICAGO (STMW) -- The CTA Red, Purple and Yellow lines were delayed Tuesday morning after a man fell onto the tracks at the Howard terminal.
About 6:40 a.m., a person fell onto the northbound 'L' tracks at the Howard Station, according to CTA spokesperson Wanda Taylor.
Power was cut between the Howard and Thorndale stations on the Red Line for approximately 15 minute minutes while fire crews removed the person from the tracks, Taylor said. The Red, Purple and Yellow lines resumed normal service about 7 a.m.
The person who fell onto the tracks was a man in his 40s, who apparently slipped, according to police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli.
Firefighters responded to the Howard station about 6:50 a.m. and removed a man from the tracks, according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Will Knight. The man was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston in serious, but stable, condition.
The CTA Blue line also experienced a brief delay about 6:40 a.m. as well due to a small track fire, Taylor said.
A train operator extinguished the flames before firefighters arrived on scene at the Belmont Blue line station, according to Taylor. Power was stopped on the Blue line between the Irving Park and Logan Square stations during the incident.
Normal Blue line service resumed about 7 a.m., Taylor said.
