Man Fakes Own Kidnapping To Take $1,000 From Family

WHEATON, Ill. (STMW) -- A southwest suburban man who wanted to get money from his family staged his own kidnapping to demand $1,000 in ransom, according to police who later arrested him.

At about 7 p.m. Tuesday, the DuPage County Sheriff's office was contacted by a family in unincorporated Willowbrook, saying that 19-year-old Dorian Ford had been kidnapped, and family members were being ordered to pay $1,000 ransom for his safe return, according to a release from the sheriff's office.

Sheriff's deputies were able to locate Dorian, who said he had been struck over the head and abducted. However, it was later learned that Dorian had not been kidnapped, but had actually staged the incident himself and made the call demanding the ransom, the release said.

Ford, of the 10S600 block of Ivy Lane in Willowbrook, has been charged with felony disorderly conduct – filing a false crime report. He is being held in the DuPage County Jail pending a bond hearing at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Wheaton.
