Man Faces Up To 90 Years For Sex Assault Of Baby
YORKVILLE, Ill. (STMW) - A west suburban Montgomery man is facing between 12 and 90 years in prison for sexually assaulting and breaking the leg of a 3-month-old girl, the Kendall County state's attorney's office said Thursday.
Joe Harvey, 28, of Marnel Road in Montgomery, was convicted of predatory criminal sexual assault, aggravated battery of a child and aggravated criminal sexual abuse after a three-day trial this week, prosecutors said.
In June 2009, Kendall County deputies were called for a report of a baby with severe bruising. Medical examinations showed that the baby had multiple bruises and a broken lower right leg, prosecutors said. Investigators quickly identified Harvey as a suspect. During a taped interview, Harvey admitted to molesting the baby and causing the injuries.
Kendall County State's Attorney Eric Weis said the case was one of the most disturbing he has ever had to prosecute.
"Even medical professionals who testified in this case described the nature and extent of the injuries to the baby as particularly disturbing," Weis said. "The photographs of the severe injuries to the baby were enough to make your stomach upset, even to a veteran prosecutor."
Weis said the girl is the youngest victim of sexual assault in recent memory.
