Man Ejected, Killed In I-57 Rollover
UPDATED 11/1/10 8:02 a.m.
COUNTRY CLUB HILLS, Ill. (CBS) - A man was ejected from a vehicle, and another was injured, late Sunday in a fatal rollover crash on Interstate 57 near Flossmoor, Illinois State Police said.
Shortly before 11:50 p.m. Sunday, a southbound vehicle on I-57 near Vollmer Road swerved out of control and crashed into the center median, before rolling over into the northbound lanes, according to Illinois State Police District Chicago trooper Mark Hall.
A 30-year-old man was ejected from the vehicle and was dead on the scene, Hall said.
That man, Marcus D. Kristofek, of the 10700 block of South Church Street in Chicago, was pronounced at Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey at 12:04 a.m. Monday, according to a Cook County Medical Examiner's office spokeswoman.
Another 30-year-old man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where he was treated for minor injuries.
The survivor of the crash told police he and Kristofek had been drinking alcohol, state police said.
It was not immediately known which man was the driver of the 1998 Lincoln Mark VIII involved in the crash.
All northbound and southbound lanes were shut down, according to Hall, who said state police were still on scene investigating the crash.
CBS 2's Don Schwenneker reports I-57 had reopened by 6:45 a.m., but a new accident was also reported. Some motorists looking at the crash collided on northbound I-57 at U.S. 30. Two ambulances were sent to the scene.
Another serious accident also tied up northbound I-57 Monday morning at 111th Street/Monterey Avenue.
