Man Dies In One-Vehicle Crash On Route 20
MARENGO, Ill. (STMW) - Authorities were investigating a crash late Thursday that killed an Elgin man when an air conditioning firm's work van he was driving went off the road along Route 20 near Marengo, police said.
McHenry County Sheriff Keith Nygren said that at about 11:55 p.m., the 2010 Ford E-250 van was westbound in the 6700 block of Route 20 in Coral Township when it went off the right side of the roadway. The vehicle then crossed back over the roadway and went off the left side of the road, went into a ditch, rolled over and hit several trees, authorities said.
The driver, Angel Bahena, 27, of the 400 block of Princeton Court in Elgin, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sheriff's deputies reported that the van's front airbags deployed but that Bahena was not wearing a seatbelt.
The crash was being investigated by the McHenry County Sheriff's Office Accident Investigations Unit and the McHenry County Coroner's Office.
