Man Dies In Custody At North Side Police Station

CHICAGO (STMW) - A Saturday autopsy was inconclusive on a DeKalb man who died at a North Side police station early Saturday after being arrested for marijuana possession.

The man -- identified as by the Cook County Medical Examiner's office as 31-year-old Antonio Thomas, of 833 Kimberly Dr. in DeKalb -- was arrested about 10:30 p.m. Friday at North Ridge and West Hollywood avenues for narcotics possession, according to a Lincoln District police sergeant. Thomas had a small amount of marijuana on him when he was arrested.
He was being processed at the Lincoln District police station at 5400 N. Lincoln Ave. when he was found unresponsive at 2:19 a.m., police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said.
Thomas was taken to Swedish Covenant Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:38 a.m., according to the medical examiner's office. Thomas was not familiar to police in the area, the sergeant said.
A Saturday autopsy was inconclusive, pending toxicology results.
Belmont Area detectives are investigating.
