Police: Drugs Played A Role In Fatal South Side Crash
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Charges are pending against the driver whose passenger was killed in a crash Monday afternoon on the South Side, an accident police say was drug-related.
The two men were in a two-door 1999 Pontiac traveling north on South Shore Drive about 2:50 p.m. when the driver lost control of the car, police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.
The vehicle skidded into southbound traffic, hitting a four-door 2005 Volkswagen in the 6600 block of South Shore, Alfaro said.
According to police, drugs played a role in the crash.
Both the driver and the passenger in the Pontiac were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where the passenger later died, Alfaro said. The driver was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Nathan Loveless, 22, of the 3500 block of South Rhodes Avenue was pronounced dead at 3:42 p.m. at Northwestern Memorial, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Police said Monday morning that charges are pending against the driver.
