Man Dies After Lawn Mower Falls On Him
SANDWICH, Ill. (STMW) -- DeKalb County officials are conducting a death investigation after a man was found dead underneath a lawn mower Thursday night in Sandwich.
About 9:52 p.m. sheriff's police were called to the 3300 block of East Sandwich Road by firefighters who attempted to tend to the deceased 37-year-old man, according to a statement from the Dekalb County Sheriff's Department.
The victim, a mechanic with a landscaping company, was working alone repairing a broken belt underneath a large commercial lawn mower when the jack stands were knocked over, Dekalb County Chief Deputy Sheriff Gary Dumdie said.
The mower apparently fell on to the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene in Sandwich, about 20 miles southwest of Aurora, sheriff's police said.
Employees last saw the man alive at 5 p.m. and he was discovered about 9:30 p.m., Dumdie said.
While the death was described as an "accident," the incident remains under investigation, sheriff's police said.
