Man Dies After Edens Spur Crash
NORTHBROOK, Ill. (STMW) -- A man died after a two-vehicle accident on the Edens Spur near north suburban Northbrook Saturday evening.
At 5:37 p.m., a man was driving a vehicle westbound on the Edens Spur at Waukegan Road when he attempted to turn around in the crossover area reserved for emergency vehicles, according to Illinois State Police District 15 Sgt. Julio Serrano.
Witnesses said the black vehicle's lights were off in a "covert" manner while the motorist attempted to turn his vehicle around in a "very dark area," Serrano said.
A female motorist driving a vehicle eastbound did not see the man's vehicle, which was then struck on the driver's side, Serrano said.
"She didn't see him until it was too late to stop," Serrano said.
Ersin Aguirre, 40, of 4340 N. Drake Ave., was pronounced dead at 6:39 p.m. at Glenbrook Hospital in Glenview, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
No citations or charges are expected.
One westbound lane that was blocked to traffic was reopened at 9:40 p.m.
The Edens Spur is the 5-mile stretch of tollway near Northbrook that connects the Edens Expressway (Interstate 94) and the Tri-State Tollway (Interstate 294).
