Man Dies After Car Strikes Fire Hydrant
CHICAGO (STMW) - Police are investigating the death of a man who was found slumped over the wheel of a car on the South Side Saturday after the car had struck a fire hydrant.
At 4:25 p.m., officers responded to a call of a man slumped over in a vehicle on the 400 block of East Marquette Road, according to police News Affairs Sgt. Antoinette Ursitti.
The car had struck a fire hydrant at that location, Ursitti said.
The man, Jerry Stevenson, 58, of the 6500 block of S. Laflin St., was found in the auto at 407 E. Marquette Rd., according to a spokesman for the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
He was taken to Saint Bernard Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:27 p.m.
Calumet Area detectives are conducting a death investigation. An autopsy is scheduled for Sunday.
