Man Dies After Being Stranded On Kennedy Expressway
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man died late Saturday after he was found unresponsive in a vehicle stranded on the Kennedy Expressway.
He was in a car that ran out of gas in the southbound lanes of the expressway (I-90/94), Illinois State Police District Chicago Trooper Mark Hall said.
The 45-year-old Chicago resident, a passenger in the vehicle, stayed with the driver while two other people in the car left to try to find gasoline, Hall said.
Illinois Department of Transportation crews responded about 10:30 p.m. to a call of a motorist needing assistance and found the man unresponsive, he said. The man was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Derek S. Jones, of the 600 block of South Wabash Avenue, was pronounced dead at 11:58 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
State Police are still interviewing everyone in the car early Sunday, and could not immediately say what killed the man.
