Man Dies After Being Rescued From Fire
CHICAGO (STMW) - A man died Thursday afternoon hours after firefighters rescued him from a burning home on the Far South Side.
James Kent, 66, was injured in a fire and pronounced dead at 5 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Emergency personnel responded about 2:10 a.m. to a fire at a 1 ½-story home at 147 E. 118th Place and elevated the blaze to a still-and-box alarm, Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford said.
A neighbor called 911 and reported a person was probably trapped inside, Langford said.
Firefighters found the man in full cardiac arrest in the rear of the home, Langford said. Paramedics continued to perform advanced life-support while taking him to Roseland Hospital even though he wasn't responding.
He was eventually resuscitated at the hospital and transferred in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Langford said.
The blaze, which started in the front of the home, was extinguished just after 2:30 a.m., Langford said.
