Man Dead, Another Wounded In Auburn-Gresham Shooting
CHICAGO (STMW) -- One man was killed and another man wounded in a shooting in the Auburn-Gresham neighborhood on the South Side Saturday night.
They were walking in the 1200 block of West 79th Street at 8:35 p.m. when the shooter walked up and opened fire, police said.
Andrew Jackson, 27, of the 7600 block of South Saginaw Avenue, was dead at the scene, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. Another man, 41, was taken in good condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with a gunshot wound to his leg, police said.
Police said one person was in custody after a witness identified him as the shooter. A security camera at a nearby store also caught the shooting on tape, police said.
The Chicago Transit Authority's No. 79 buses were being temporarily rerouted around the area of the shooting, an alert from the transit agency said.
