Man In Custody After Fatal Hit-And-Run

CHICAGO (STMW) - A man is in custody after a Friday night hit-and-run accident that killed an elderly man as he crossed a West Side Humboldt Park neighborhood intersection.
The incident happened about 8:10 p.m. in the 1600 block of North Kimball Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.
The man was crossing the intersection when he was struck by a car, which fled after hitting him, Alfaro said. He was taken to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County in critical condition.
The victim, identified as Robert E. Deters, 75, of an unknown home address, was pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital at 8:58 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
An autopsy on Saturday confirmed that Deters died from multiple injuries sustained when he was struck by a motor vehicle. His death was ruled an accident.
The suspected driver and the vehicle were located in the 4700 block of West Washington Boulevard, police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines said.
No charges have been filed of of Saturday afternoon, said police News Affairs Officer Daniel O'Brien.
According to unconfirmed dispatch reports, the offending vehicle is a green 1995 Chevy SUV with a cracked windshield.
