Man Critically Injured In Boystown Fight
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man was beaten and critically injured early Monday in a fight in the heart of the Boystown nightlife strip.
The victim apparently had broken someone's cell phone as they were all walking down the street around 5:50 a.m., near Halsted and Roscoe streets, police said.
Police officers responding to the scene found the man lying in the street with severe head and facial injuries. He was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in serious to critical condition, police said.
Witnesses told police four men were walking down the street when one of the four knocked a phone out one of their hands.
The man told the other man he had broken his cell phone, at which point the three men began fighting with him. The men began beating him in the middle of the street, then left him bleeding on the street and ran down Halsted Street.
Police say both the victim and the three men were apparently intoxicated.
The intersection of Halsted and Roscoe streets is the epicenter of the Boystown nightlife scene, with some of the area' most popular bars and nightclubs lining Halsted Street both to the north and south. Also at the intersection is a 7-Eleven with a parking lot that doubles as an after-hours gathering spot after the bars close.
No one was in custody Monday afternoon in connection with the incidents.
