On Feb. 17, 2011, Windom was on the Borman Expressway in Lake Station, Ind., and according to prosecutors, he pulled up behind a car carrying Robert Lyons and Brenda Driver, and their 2-month-old son.
He repeatedly flashed his brights in his silver Dodge Charger, and when the car didn't pull over, he pulled up next to it and opened fire with a handgun, shooting out windows and leaving bullet holes in the interior, prosecutors say. He shot out windows and left bullet holes in the interior.
Nobody in the car was hit.
Lyons' car had five to six bullet holes, broken windows and bullet holes inside the passenger area.
"Just fireworks -- I mean just pop, pop," Lyons said."And then when it started hitting the car you could hear it pinging against the metal."
Two days after the expressway shooting, Windom allegedly got into an argument with Deandre Wilson in the 4300 block of West 23rd Avenue in Gary, and killed him.
Windom has pleaded not guilty in that case.
Lake County, Ind., Superior Court Judge Thomas Stefaniak Jr., scheduled a May 9 sentencing hearing in the road rage case. The attempted battery counts are punishable by a sentence of two to eight years, and the criminal recklessness charges are punishable by a maximum three-year sentence.
