Man Charged With Stealing Car That Had Child Inside
BENSENVILLE, Ill. (CBS) – A 34-year-old Bensenville man has been charged with stealing a vehicle with a child in it -- a crime that prompted an Amber Alert earlier this week.
Charges against Adan Ozuna include unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle, endangering the life of a child, and driving with a revoked license, Bensenville police announced in a news release Friday.
He's expected to appear in bond court Saturday morning, authorities said.
Ozuna's alleged theft drew headlines when a woman reported her SUV stolen and her 18-month-old daughter abducted. The mother had left her car idling in the 900 block of Irving Park Road early Thursday to make a stop at an apartment building when a man entered the vehicle and drove away.
Authorities said the child's abduction appeared incidental and unplanned. The vehicle and child were recovered later in the morning in Bensenville, about a mile from where the vehicle was stolen.
Police say information led them to suspect Ozuna, who was in an apartment in Mount Prospect. He was taken into custody without incident, Bensenville police said.
