Man Charged With Stealing $80K From Youth Baseball League
GRAYSLAKE, Ill. (STMW) -- A north suburban youth baseball treasurer has been charged with writing about $80,000 worth of organization checks to himself.
Donald Schaefer was arrested at his home in Grayslake about 6:30 a.m. Monday morning on a warrant issued Oct. 30, according to Gurnee police.
He is charged with felony theft for allegedly taking $80,000 from a Gurnee youth baseball organization over a five-year period, Gurnee Police Commander Willie Meyer said.
Meyer said he did not know what Schaefer used the money for, but said he is no longer treasurer of the league.
Schaefer served as president of the Northeastern Illinois Association of Snowmobile Clubs from at least 1997 through 2000.
