Man Charged With Sexual Assault Of 5-Year-Old Girl
WHEATON, Ill. (STMW) -- A west suburban man was ordered held on $350,000 bond Tuesday after being charged with sexually assaulting a 5-year-old girl in her Bloomingdale home.
John Garcines, 26, of the 600 block of Gunderson Dr. in Carol Stream, was charged with one count each of predatory criminal sexual assault, a Class X felony, and aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a Class 2 felony. He allegedly had inappropriate sexual contact with the 5-year-old daughter of an acquaintance, according to the DuPage County State's Attorney's office.
Judge Michael Wolfe set bond at $350,000 Tuesday morning, a release from the state's attorney's office said. Garcines' next scheduled court appearance is May 23, where he will be arraigned in front of Judge John Kinsella.
The alleged inappropriate contact happened at least twice -- once in February and once on April 22 -- while Garcines was watching the girl at her Bloomingdale home, the release said.
The girl told her mother what allegedly happened after the April incident, and the mother contacted Bloomingdale police, the release said.
"My office takes all allegations of sexual abuse very seriously," State's Atty. Robert Berlin said. "Young victims are often manipulated to keep their attacker's secrets from society."
