Man Charged With Robbing Woman On Blue Line Train
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A South Side man has been charged with robbing a woman on a CTA Blue Line train last weekend at a station in the Logan Square neighborhood on the Northwest Side.
Eric Carney, 22, of the 4800 block of South Chicago Beach Drive, was charged in connection with the robbery that happened about 6:10 a.m. Sunday after a train arrived at the Western Blue Line station at 1909 N. Western Ave., police announced early Thursday.
A 28-year-old woman sitting in the train had just pulled out her cell phone when Carney allegedly boarded the train, grabbed the device and ran off the train before it left the station.
Police issued a community alert on Monday, and Carney was later identified in surveillance photos taken at the station, police said.
He was not charged with a second robbery listed in the alert, which happened at the same station on the morning of Jan. 6, police said.
According to court records, Carney's criminal history dates back to 2009. In February 2012, he served one day in prison after he pleaded guilty to selling merchandise on CTA property, records show. His most recent charge was in November 2013, where Carney was charged with simple assault. That case is still ongoing.
Carney faces one felony count of robbery and is scheduled to appear in bond court on Thursday.
