Man Charged With Robbing Northwestern Students In Evanston
EVANSTON, Ill. (CBS) -- A man has surrendered to police in connection with the armed robbery of three students at Northwestern University in Evanston.
Timothy Blue, 23, turned himself in Evanston police on Wednesday. He was one of two men captured on video surveillance images after the robberies this past weekend, and he was identified by witnesses in a lineup, police said.
Around 1:10 a.m. this past Sunday, the three young women – all Northwestern students – were walking in the 2000 block of Pratt Court, a residential block just a few blocks west of the main quads.
The other two women were told to hand over their purses, and the robbers ran west on nearby Foster Street, police said.
About 15 minutes later, the robbers were caught on surveillance video using credit cards they stole from the women at a 7-Eleven store at 3441 Church St. in Skokie.
Surveillance video shows them exiting a light-colored vehicle and entering the store, Evanston police said. A male with dreadlocks or braids approaches the register and makes a purchase with the credit card, which belonged to one of the robbery victims. They then drive off.
After the release of the surveillance images, Blue, of the 1800 block of Hartrey Avenue in Evanston, surrendered. He was charged Thursday with three counts of armed robbery.
Police say the apprehension of the second suspect is pending.
