Prosecutors: Robber Tracked By iPad He Stole
MOUNT PROSPECT, Ill. (STMW) -- A south suburban man allegedly stole more than $88,000 worth of Apple products and cell phones during a hold up in a Mount Prospect Sprint store, but was quickly arrested after authorities used a GPS from an iPad he allegedly took to track him at the Markham courthouse.
Marvin L. Jones Jr., 25, and another man walked into the Sprint store, in the 900 block of East Rand Rd., Tuesday and ordered the three people inside into a bathroom while they stole 46 Apple products and 134 cell phones totaling $88,400, Cook County prosecutors said Saturday.
Jones was allegedly armed with a handgun.
Jones, of Hazel Crest, was tracked by the GPS from one of the stolen iPads at the Markham courthouse Saturday where he was scheduled to appear for a bond court hearing, authorities said.
It was unclear what Jones was supposed to be in court for.
Jones was positively identified by the victims, prosecutors said.
Judge Laura Sullivan ordered Jones held in lieu of $200,000 bail on Saturday at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse for armed robbery.
The second man is still at large.
