Man Charged With Promoting Prostitution
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A West Pullman man is charged with promoting prostitution after he was arrested last week at an Alsip hotel.
Claudell Arrington, 33, was arrested April 15 when he thought he was going to receive proceeds from a woman he recruited to prostitute for him, according to a statement from the Cook County sheriff's office.
Arrington provided a hotel room for the woman – who was actually an undercover sheriff's police officer – and posted ads about her on the escorts section of Backpage.com, the sheriff's office said. He first contacted the officer last month through a separate Backpage ad that had been posted during a previous undercover operation targeting johns.
Arrington, of the 700 block of West Vermont, was charged with promoting prostitution and ordered held on a $10,000 bond on Friday, the sheriff's office said.
Sheriff's police have made more than 780 arrests related to Backpage since 2009, according to the statement.
