Man Charged With Pointing Gun At Cops In Woodlawn
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 23-year-old man has been charged with pointing a gun at Chicago police officers as he was running away from them over the weekend.
Xavier Tucker, of the 6000 block of South Carpenter Street, was charged with one count each of aggravated assault to a police officer and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, according to police.
Around 3:20 p.m. Saturday, police officers responded to a call about people shooting handguns near 64th Street and King Drive, police said. Officers saw a car matching the one involved in the gunfire, a blue Pontiac Grand Prix, at 61st and King Drive.
Officers pulled the car over and two males jumped out from the car and ran from police, police said.
Tucker, as he was running from police, allegedly pointed a handgun at the pursuing officers. One of the officers then shot at Tucker, though he was not struck, police said.
Tucker was taken into custody and a handgun was recovered from him, police said.
The second man who jumped out of the car managed to get away and has not yet been found.
A third man stayed in the car but, was seen trying to hide something under one of the seats. He was also taken into custody after police found another handgun. That man, however, was not charged and has been released.
No officers were injured in the incident.
