Man Charged With Murder Of Roommates
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder after his two roommates were found dead with shotgun wounds to the chest Friday night in the South Side Woodlawn neighborhood, police said.
Michael Myrieckes, 52, of the 6500 block of South Kenwood Avenue, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of his roommates – 68-year-old Avelino Sanchez and 49-year-old Lori Inman, police said.
At about 9:20 p.m. on Friday, police received a call from someone who said their friend was going to kill his roommates who live in the 6500 block of South Kenwood Avenue, police said, citing preliminary information.
Police said the man remained at the scene and was armed. He refused to leave the apartment, and a SWAT team and the Police Department's Hostage Barricade Terrorist Incident Unit were called in, police said.
The man eventually surrendered to police at 10 p.m. and was taken into custody, said police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro.
A male and a female were found unresponsive at the scene, Alfaro said.
Sanchez, 68, and Inman, 49, both of whom lived in the home were the shooting took place, were each dead on the scene, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
An autopsy performed Saturday determined that Sanchez died from a gunshot wound to the neck and a shotgun wound to the chest, the medical examiner's office said.
Inman also died from a shotgun wound to the chest and multiple gunshot wounds, the medical examiner's office said.
Both deaths were ruled homicides.
Area South detectives are investigating.
