Man Charged With Murder After Alleged Accomplice Fatally Shot In Robbery
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A Maywood man was charged with murder after his partner was fatally shot during an attempted armed robbery Monday in the west suburbs.
Jerry Greer, 20, of the 1800 block of Eighth Avenue in Maywood, was charged with first degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon and attempted armed robbery — all felonies, according to Deputy Chief Elijah Willis of the Maywood Police Department.
Greer and 23-year-old Cortez Lloyd attempted to rob a male about 3 p.m. Monday at Third Avenue and Van Buren Street in Maywood, according to Willis. The male fired a gun, striking Lloyd, as the two attempted to rob him.
The male victim was not a concealed carry license holder, Willis said. The shooting remained under investigation, but no charges were filed against the shooter Thursday evening.
Lloyd was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood with multiple gunshot wounds to the chest. He was pronounced dead at 3:38 p.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.
He lived in the 100 block of South 17th Avenue in Maywood, the medical examiner's office said.
Greer was arrested Tuesday and charged Thursday, according to Willis. He was expected to appear in bond court Friday.
