Man Charged With Lakeview Shooting, Robbery
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man has been charged in connection with a shooting last month in the Lakeview neighborhood on the North Side.
Nickolas Burch, 27, faces one count of armed robbery with the discharge of a firearm causing bodily harm, one count of aggravated battery with the discharge of a firearm and two counts of aggravated battery to a police officer, all felonies, according to a statement from Chicago Police.
About 8:35 p.m. Aug. 1, witnesses heard gunfire and found a 27-year-old man in an alley in the 3200 block of North Racine with a gunshot wound to the left side of the neck, police said.
The man was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition, police said at the time.
"I want to give special thanks to Nick Notorangelo, Elaine Osgoode, and the residents who responded quickly and bravely to save this young man's life," Ald. Tom Tunney (44th) said in a statement.
"They are shinning examples of the Lake View community. Together—neighbors, business and organizations alike—we will help make Lake View safer, and show that criminal activity will not be tolerated. Lake View is and will remain the best neighborhood in Chicago."
Burch, who lives in the 300 block of South Oakley, was taken into custody Wednesday and subsequently charged in connection with the shooting, police said. He was scheduled to appear in bond court Thursday.
