Man Charged With Lakefront Car Burglary, Police Seek Other Victims
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A West Side man has been charged with burglarizing a car near the lakefront on the South Side and police believe he burglarized several other vehicles after finding more than 100 gift cards, purses, wallets and numerous other stolen items in his home.
Leonard Jamison, 46, of the 4800 block of West Erie was arrested Nov. 10 and charged with one count of felony burglary, a release from police said. On Monday, Jamison was released after posting $75,000 bond.
Police said a blood sample that was left behind after a Sept. 4 burglary of a car near the lakefront in the 3100 bock of South Lake Shore Drive led them to Jamison.
A woman parked and locked her car there about 7 a.m. and came back to find her window broken and her purse containing money, phones and other small electronics taken.
Illinois State Police results linked the blood sample to Jamison's DNA profile. Investigators also found the trail of purchases made by Jamison using the woman's credit cards, where surveillance video was also recovered.
A search warrant executed by police and the FBI on Nov. 10 recovered several items taken in that burglary.
A second search warrant executed on Nov. 14 resulted in more titems that were taken in other burglaries, including purses, smart phones, laptops, digital cameras and more than 100 gift cards, the release said.
Investigators are trying to find other victims of car burglaries that may have happened along the lakefront. A display of the property will be at Area 3 Headquarters on Nov. 17 and 18 between 9 and 5 p.m. at 2452 W. Belmont. The display is for victims who have previously reported the theft.
