Man Charged With Killing Aunt On Christmas

WILMETTE, Ill. (CBS) -- A 24-year-old Wilmette man stands charged with the murder of his aunt in her home on Christmas Day, hours after he had bonded out of jail on another case.
Police say it all started with an argument over what kind of doughnuts the man should buy.

Anthony Rapoport is charged with the murder of Nancee Rapoport, 49, who was found unconscious with severe head trauma in her home in the 3100 block of Hill Lane in Wilmette.
Police received a call of a possible homicide at the home at 4:13 p.m. Saturday.
Police officers at the scene spoke with Anthony Rapoport's uncle in the driveway, and he told the officers that Anthony Rapoport had told him he had killed someone inside the home. But the suspect had already fled by the time police arrived.
Nancee Rapoport was taken to Evanston Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 4:14 p.m. Sunday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. An autopsy on Monday found that she suffered cranio-cerebral injuries from an assault and her death was ruled a homicide, according to the medical examiner's office.
Anthony Rapoport was found in the 3100 block of Temple Lane after officers searched the neighborhood. The officers saw blood on his clothing as they arrested him, police said.
Anthony Rapoport admitted that he beat his aunt in the head with an aluminum baseball bat, which was recovered at the scene, police said.
Police say the motive for the slaying appears to be several minor arguments between Rapoport and his aunt.
First, the subject was the kind of doughnuts that Rapoport's aunt wanted him to buy on Christmas Eve, police said. Police responded to the argument, and Anthony Rapoport was arrested on an outstanding warrant for aggravated assault in Skokie.
Rapoport was held in jail overnight, and was in holiday bond court on Christmas Day for the outstanding warrant. After being released, he returned to the Wilmette house, where within hours, he attacked his aunt.
Anthony Rapoport says his aunt accused him of taking and hiding her cell phone. He told investigators he was tired of being "nagged" by his aunt.
As of Monday morning, Anthony Rapoport was being held in the Wilmette police lockup, and will appear for a bond hearing in the afternoon.
