Man Charged With DUI In Hillside Crash That Injured Five
(STMW) -- A driver man was intoxicated when he caused a crash that injured five people — one of them critically — on Christmas night in west suburban Hillside, police allege.
Dolton resident Marcell Johnson is charged with aggravated DUI for the accident that happened about 10:45 p.m. Friday at Harrison Street and Wolf Road, according to Hillside police.
The 23-year-old was at the wheel with two passengers in his vehicle when he blew a red light and hit another car with two people inside, police said.
A 42-year-old woman riding as a passenger in the second vehicle was unresponsive at the scene and taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood in critical condition, police said.
Two other people were taken to Loyola and two more to Elmhurst Memorial Hospital, Hillside fire officials said. Their injuries weren't considered life-threatening.
The crash was captured on video by surveillance cameras, police said.
Johnson was arrested after being released from the hospital. His bond was set at $250,000 and he is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.
