Man Charged With DUI In Fatal Crash
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A Southeast Side man has been charged with DUI, in connection with a Sunday crash that killed a North Dakota woman and left a young boy injured.
Brandon Reed, 23, of the 7400 block of South Coles Avenue, is charged with two misdemeanor counts of DUI, police News Affairs Officer Daniel O'Brien said. Reed was also cited for driving on a revoked license.
The car struck a tree in the 1600 block of West Harrison Street on the Near West Side shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday. It then came to rest against a Rush University Medical Center parking structure on the south side of Harrison Street, police said.
Reed was taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital of Cook County three blocks away, police said. A 4-year-old boy, also a passenger in the car, was taken in stable condition to University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital.
DeLeon was pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital at 2:38 a.m. Sunday. An autopsy on Tuesday found she suffered multiple injuries from an automobile striking a fixed object, and her death was ruled an accident, according to the medical examiner's office.
The accident remains under investigation and police say the charges against Reed may be upgraded. It was unclear if he remained hospitalized Wednesday afternoon.
