Man Charged With DUI After Hitting Elderly Pedestrian
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Bond was set at $350,000 Sunday for the driver in a hit-and-run incident Friday morning that critically injured an elderly pedestrian in the Uptown neighborhood.
The crash happened about 7:05 a.m. on Friday at the intersection of Broadway and West Lawrence Avenue, when the 87-year-old man was struck as he tried to cross the street, police said.
The driver left the scene, but was soon apprehended by police.
The victim was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he remained in critical condition on Saturday, according to police.
Michael Izeta, of the 6100 block of North Damen Avenue, has been charged with felony aggravated DUI.
He was also charged with striking a pedestrian in the roadway, failure to yield, two counts of driving under the influence, running a red light, driving without a license and driving without insurance.
Izeta will be back in court Monday.
