Man Charged With Burning Woman With Hot Iron
ELGIN, Ill. (STMW) -- Bail was set at $40,000 Tuesday for a northwest suburban Elgin man accused of burning a woman with a hot clothes iron, the Elgin Courier-News reports.
The woman was taken to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin for treatment of the burns following the incident Saturday, authorities said.
Eric Alonso, 32, of the 600 block of Chester Avenue, was charged with a Class 2 felony count of aggravated domestic battery, and misdemeanor charges of domestic battery and interfering with the reporting of a domestic battery, police said.
According to police, the woman was burned on her forearm, shoulder and the back of both her thighs. When she went to dial 911, the report said, Alonso is accused of taking the cellphone and smashing it.
Alonso was picked up by police later, as he had fled the scene before officers arrived, according to reports.
His next court date is set for Sept. 11.
