Man Charged With Beating Liquor Store Cashier With Hammer
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man is behind bars for allegedly bludgeoning a liquor store employee with a hammer to the head during a robbery early Monday in Jefferson Park.
Aaron Federman, 29, of the 5100 block of West Strong Street, is charged with armed robbery and attempted first-degree murder for the attack that left a 49-year-old man in critical condition with a skull fracture, police said.
Federman allegedly walked into Lis Food and Liquor, in the 5300 block of West Lawrence Avenue, at 1:35 a.m. and asked the cashier for two boxes of candy. When the man started to ring the candy up, Federman took out a claw hammer and started hitting the man in the head, police said.
Federman, the 6-foot-1, 192-pound laborer, made off with cash and the entire cash register, according to his arrest report.
Someone who walked into the liquor store shortly after found the 49-year-old store employee bleeding. He was taken to Resurrection Medical Center initially in critical condition, the report said.
The victim described his attacker, and also provided video surveillance of the attack.
On Thursday, Federman was ordered held in lieu of $700,000 bail.
