Man Charged With Beating, Holding Girlfriend At NW Suburban Home
(STMW) -- A 26-year-old Arlington Heights man is being held on $100,000 bond, charged with the domestic battery of his girlfriend and forcefully preventing her from leaving the northwest suburban home.
At approximately 5 p.m. on Monday, Cook County Sheriff's Police were called about a domestic battery that occurred in the 2300 block of Nichols Road in an unincorporated area Arlington Heights, a release from the sheriff's office said. A 22-year-old woman, who had injuries to her face and wrist, told sheriff's police that over the course of a few days her boyfriend had battered and attempted to strangle her.
She said a few days before she called police, the boyfriend, Emanuel Bentley, punched her in the eye and face during a domestic dispute. When she tried to leave, Bentley took her phone so she could not call for help. He pushed her and attempted to choke her, to the point where she could not breathe.
A couple of days after the first incident, when she made another attempt to leave the home, Bentley allegedly bit her arm and burned her right wrist with a lit cigarette, she told police.
She said she was able to leave the home on Monday by telling Bentley she had to go to the store, the release said. Instead, though, she went to the home of a relative and called police, the release said.
Bentley was arrested and charged with aggravated domestic battery and unlawful restraint on Tuesday. At a court appearance on Wednesday at the Rolling Meadows courthouse, his bond was set at $100,000, the sheriff's office said. He remained in custody at Cook County Jail as of Saturday morning. His next court appearance is scheduled for July 5 at the Rolling Meadows Courthouse.
